Engine knock on the 2.0 and 2.4
Some 2011 to 2019 2.0 and 2.4 engines knock from worn rod bearings. Metal bits in the oil cause it. A knock that grows with engine speed is the sign. Hyundai has issued recalls on many of these engines. We check yours and tell you what we find.
Steering coupler clunk
The steering coupler is a small rubber part inside the steering column. On the Elantra, Sonata and Tucson it wears and clunks when you turn. We replace the coupler and the clunk is gone.
Ignition coil misfire
Hyundai four cylinders misfire when the coils wear. The check engine light flashes and the engine shakes. We replace the coils and plugs.
Dual clutch transmission jerks
The dual clutch automatic on the Veloster, Tucson and Kona can jerk at low speed. A software update and the right fluid often help. We test it and give you a straight answer.
Alternator failure
The alternator charges the battery while you drive. On some Hyundai models it fails early and the battery light comes on. We test the charging system and replace the alternator if needed.
Suspension noise
Sway bar links and strut mounts on the Sonata and Elantra clunk over bumps. Small parts, big noise. We replace them.

Why does my Hyundai engine knock?
