Fuel System Repair for Import Cars in Athens, GA
Your engine needs a steady, clean flow of fuel. When that flow stumbles, so does the car. Athens Import Auto Repair does fuel system repair for import cars in Athens, GA. We work on BMW, Audi, VW, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Toyota and more.
Fuel System Repair done right, by people who know imports
The fuel pump pushes gas from the tank, and the filter cleans it. Then the injectors spray it into the engine. Many imports also have a high pressure pump on the engine itself. We test each part until we find the weak one.

BMW turbo engines from about 2007 to 2010 are known for high pressure fuel pump failure. Audi and VW 2.0 turbo engines wear out the cam follower. That is a small cup that drives the high pressure pump. Once it wears through, it can ruin the cam. Mercedes-Benz fuel filters need to be changed on schedule. Honda and Toyota in tank pumps last a long time, but they do fail in old age. Mini Cooper and Volvo cars set evap codes when a hose cracks or the purge valve wears out. We work on every one of these at our shop in Athens, GA.
Signs of a fuel system problem
- The engine cranks a long time before it starts.
- The car sputters or loses power at highway speed.
- You smell gas near the car or inside it.
- The check engine light shows a lean code or an evap code.
- The engine surges or hunts at idle.
- A whine from the back gets louder as the tank runs low.
What our fuel system service includes
Fuel pressure test
We measure the pressure at the engine. When it reads low or drops off, that points to the pump or the filter.
Fuel pump replacement
The pump sits in the tank, and when it weakens, the car starves for fuel at speed. We install a new pump that meets the factory spec.
High pressure fuel pump
Direct injection engines use a second pump on the engine, and BMW, Audi and VW pumps can fail. We replace them and check the cam follower too.
Injector service
Injectors spray fuel in a fine mist, so dirty or leaking ones cause misfires. We clean, test or replace them.
Fuel filter replacement
Mercedes-Benz, VW and older imports have a filter you can change. When it clogs, it starves the engine of fuel.
Evap leak repair
The evap system traps gas fumes, and a cracked hose or a bad valve sets a code. We smoke test the system and fix the leak.

Carpenter, K., customerFuel System Repair FAQ
Do you do fuel system repair for import cars in Athens, GA?
Yes, we do. Athens Import Auto Repair fixes fuel pumps, injectors, filters and evap leaks on imports only. That includes BMW, Audi, VW, Mercedes-Benz, Honda, Toyota, Mini and more. Call 706-353-3880.
Why does my BMW take a long time to start?
A long crank on a BMW turbo often means a weak high pressure fuel pump. That pump sits on the engine and feeds the injectors, so we test the pressure first. If it reads low, we replace the pump.
What is a cam follower on an Audi or VW?
The cam follower is a small metal cup between the camshaft and the high pressure fuel pump. It wears through over time, and if it is not replaced, it damages the cam and the pump. That is why we check it at every service.
Why does my car sputter at highway speed?
A sputter under load is often a weak fuel pump. The pump keeps up at low speed, but it falls behind at high speed. A clogged filter can do the same thing, so we test the pressure while driving.
What does an evap code mean?
An evap code means the system found a leak. The evap system keeps gas fumes from escaping, so a leak sets a code. It can be a loose cap, a cracked hose or a bad valve. We smoke test the system to find it.
Should I clean my fuel injectors?
It can help if the engine idles rough or misfires. Dirty injectors spray unevenly, so we clean them and test the spray pattern. If one is still bad, we replace it.
